CeeTox

Endocrine Disruption Screens

CeeTox’s in vitro approach analyzes Estrogen Responsive (ER) and Androgen Responsive (AR) transactivation and assesses cytotoxicity, along with Estrogen (alpha and beta) and Androgen receptor ligand binding, all without the use of animal tests.

The CeeTox in vitro method uses an affordable, two-tiered system to identify chemicals that have the potential to interact with the human endocrine system. The initial tier prioritizes transactivation, or estrogen and androgen receptor activity. A test article shown to be positive can be carried over into the second tier of binding assays that confirm its ability to specifically bind to ER-alpha, ER-beta, or Androgen receptors.

CeeTox has worked closely with the US-EPA’s Endocrine Disruption Screening Program (EDSP) to study over 170 chemicals, some known to be disruptors. Early identification of potential hazards using data from CeeTox can support an intelligent testing (IT) strategy for REACH.
