Kalamazoo Chamber of Commerce Names CeeTox as Small Business Government Contractor of the Year

KALAMAZOO, Michigan March 2, 2011– CeeTox Inc., a Kalamazoo life sciences company, has been recognized as the Small Business Government Contractor of the Year, sponsored by Stryker Corporation. The award will be presented at the Chamber’s annual Community Awards event from 6 to 7 p.m., March 22 at Western Michigan University’s Richmond Center for the Visual Arts, 1903 W. Michigan Ave.
This award is presented to a business that works closely with the Southwest Michigan Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) and is committed to pursuing and winning government contracts.
“PTAC first began working with CeeTox in 2003 during its initial start-up phase”, said Jan Campbell, PTAC Program Manager. “Since then, CeeTox has dedicated significant resources to find opportunities and submit contract proposals to agencies of the federal government. Their hard work has paid off.”
Thus far, CeeTox has been awarded significant government contracts from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institutes of Health Chemical Genomics Center (NCGC), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
“It is an honor to be recognized by the Chamber and by PTAC,” said CeeTox’s President Tim Mitchell. “I actually feel like we should be giving an award to PTAC for all the help and guidance they have given us. We would not have been nearly as successful navigating the government contract world without their help.”
CeeTox is a contract research organization (CRO) focused on in vitro toxicity and safety screening of new products including drug candidates, cosmetics, personal care products, agricultural chemicals and household chemicals. In vitro typically refers to a test that is performed in a two or three dimensional cell culture model as opposite to performed in or on an animal.
CeeTox, Inc. was founded in 2003 by four former Pfizer scientists. In 2008, CeeTox became a wholly owned subsidiary of North American Science Associates (NAMSA), of Northwood, Ohio. In 2010, CeeTox acquired most of the assets and staff of ADMETRx Inc, expanding their pharmaceutical preclinical testing capabilities. Today, CeeTox’s 35 employees are headquartered at the Southwest Michigan Innovation Center located in Western Michigan University’s Business Technology Research Park.
